Link Costume (Inspired by Breath of the Wild)

A message from Jennifer, the creator of the ‘Link’ costume:

I am wearing the costume, which is inspired by Link from Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. I made it over the course of about 6 months using my sewing machine and serger. I added embroidery with my sewing machine and by hand using a metallic white/pearlescent thread. I made the patterns for the two shirts and used an existing pattern for the pants. The fabrics I used include linen (the undershirt and arm bands), wool (the tunic), denim (the pants), and leather (the gloves).

I made the belt accessories by purchasing belts and altering them to fit the character’s design – I combined belts and held pieces together using upholstery tacks. I made the bracer using Worbla and paint. For the bow, I bought a wooden one, then added Worbla, leather and linen to mimic the look of the bow in the game. Things I purchased included the wig, boots and belts (which are altered). I also made an accessory bag by upcycling leather from an old purse. I made the quiver with Worbla, which I then covered in leather. You can’t really see it in the photos, but the undershirt also features embroidery and woven ribbon details. Both the pants and the tunic have leather chord.

Link Bow

I am a female, and Link is a male character. So, to look more masculine, I intentionally made the tunic a little large and added shoulder pads. That way, it made my frame look a little wider. I also did my makeup to create more angular features and larger eyebrows. I dyed the pants and armbands to get the colors you see in these photos.
