DIY When Hell Freezes Over Costume

I saw a picture of a headpiece with horns online that was all white and really cool. I wanted to make one for myself. With it being all white the saying “When Hell Freezes Over” came to mind. When I googled it as a costume, nothing came up. Nothing to go off of. So I knew I had to do this one. A costume that hadnt been done before, or at least not one that I had seen. I knew I wanted it to have some flair and a staff. I had ordered some pieces for the headpiece online and while I was waiting on those I decided to start on the staff. I knew I wanted a twisted one. Online those are expensive so I took a hike in the woods at my mothers house and found the perfect tree. Cut it down and stripped the bark. For the top, I knew I wanted it to glow so I started with a solar LED garden light and removed the globe. Added some wire to make branches and then molded it out of clay. Still a little fragile so I coated that in fiberglass resin.

I also drilled a hole into the staff base so the light base could fit into and the batteries could be changed. I added some fake snow and icicles made of hot glue for the frozen look and an owl on top. The headpiece started with a cast of my head with plaster cloth and a mold of fiberglass cloth and resin to form a helmet shape with a snug fit. I lined the headpiece with craft foam for comfort and attached the horns with hot glue. from there I started adding braided fabric, foral items, white branches and feathers that had all been painted white or off white to fit the look. just kept adding items until I got the look that I was going for. ripped some out and added more. the front was a little frustrating trying to get it to flow right but I think in the end I pulled it off ok. The cloak is suede with a faux fur on top with christmas icicles hot glued to the shoulders as spikes. the clasp is made from a strand of faux quartz crystals. This was definitely a challenge to make but I am beyond proud of it. It was a huge hit in my hometown and won 1st place in the local contest. I wish I could wear it again lol
